“My Son’s Type 1 Diabetes Inspired Me to Lower My Own A1C”

As part of our Type 1 Diabetes Snapshots series, we wanted to share this photo of Erin Wormsley and her son. Both have Type 1 diabetes. She also shared how the two support each other:

My son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes three years ago when he was three; I also have Type 1 diabetes. He is now six and has adapted to diabetes better than I could have ever imagined. We caught his diabetes very early because of my own experiences; he didn’t really get sick and he was never admitted to the hospital.

I was diagnosed 23 years ago and I have not always had very good control. He has been such a huge inspiration to me. After his diagnosis, I maintain much better control and I have a lower A1C than in the past. He makes me so proud of him. He is my little diabetes buddy, and I am so thankful I am able to teach him and guide him so he can live a long, healthy happy life.
