Apple is expected to launch its smartwatch today, most likely with its HealthKit platform included. For months, the diabetes community has been speculating about the watch’s capabilities and what the HealthKit platform could do for daily diabetes self-care. Some have even hoped the watch would be able to monitor blood glucose readings without bloodletting, although there is no indication it is designed for this.
The development of the watch and the HealthKit have had some bumps in the road, showing that mobile medicine is still a work in progress. Here is what we know so far about the watch’s health monitoring capabilities from our tech coverage:
