According to a Fierce Medical Devices report, pilot studies will begin on the Mendor Smart 3G, a wireless continuous blood glucose monitor that sends readings automatically to a cloud computing system. The trials are the first to be remotely conducted in their entirety in Europe. They are being undertaken by the Finnish company, Mendor. Sanofi has also contributed funds to the trials.
The Mendor Smart utilizes cloud software to wirelessly store blood-glucose readings and to provide data and coaching that the device’s makers hope users will use to achieve better blood glucose control. The monitor recently gained its CE mark, which is Europe’s version of FDA approval, but the company wants to further test the device to see how users interact with it and whether it will positively affect behavior.
